With the permission of our kind host, Craig Chase (:kissass:), I would like to start a man cave thread.

Women have Oprah and Dr Phil. I think we need a place where we can be the insensitive louts that we were meant to be. Only post stuff here that only a man could related to and enjoy.

I'll start. With spring hitting, I've put out bird feed in the feeder in my back yard.

Every morning, there are a bunch of thieving squirrels that ambush the bird feeder....leaving no food for the birds.

Taking matters into my own hands, I have a BB gun awaiting these varmints. Picked off two of them this a.m. It's amazing how fast they evacuate when they get a little BB bouncing off their asses.
About a pubic hair away from being banned!

A few years ago, I watched a program on TV which dealt with squirrels, their intelligence, and their commitment when it came to getting to a food source. The researchers put out a food source (bird seed, I believe) and created a single, unbelievably complex path to the food, that involved walking across wires, timing leaps to swinging objects, navigating across a series of small rotating barrels by leaping from one to the other. No matter how complex they made the effort, nor how long it took to navigate the path (days sometimes), the squirrels never gave up and always got the food.

I fear your bird feeder is child's play to them. Maybe leaving a few dead critters lying around would discourage the rest. Kinda makes for an ugly yard, though. :no clue:

There is a family of squirrels that have successfully eaten through my trash can lid, and they continuously burrow into it and end up knocking the trash all over my back yard.

I was thinking of putting rat poison in the trash can; that way when the burrow into it to grab some eats, they'll get some real food. :mr-t:

HAH! Found a video of the little devils. Not quite as complicated as I (poorly) remembered it but remarkable nonetheless.

        Daylight Robbery

Didn't remember, at all, the little guy who robs the vending machine at the end of the video.

You can get some really nice, powerful pellet guns that don't make much noise.

I got a RWS 350 magnum .22 air rifle a year and a half ago, and put a decent scope on it. A .22 pellet traveling at 900 feet per second will end a squirrel problem with ease. This rig took care of the rabbits which killed all of my green beans, soy beans, and peas last year.

This thread is a great idea. Between this and the Avatar Hotties thread, we may all be ordered to take sensitivity training.

Are bird feeders and man caves mutually exclusive?

Great video. Smart furry rats with bushy tails.

graphicguy, your post immediately reminded me of this article I read on espn's page 2 a few years ago. One of the funniest damn articles I've read and you will DEFINITELY be able to relate.
It was the ultimate showdown of man vs. creature when a pack of squirrels invaded Don Barone's bird feeder.

Not if you're shooting at the squirrels they attract from inside the man cave.

Ok, I'll buy that. Good thing there's shootin and stuff going on.

I received this bird feeder as a gift and it is absolutely squirrel proof, it drives them nuts http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page...719,33068&ap=1. Mind you, I still want to shoot the little bastards . I haven't quite figured out how to do that without hitting the neighbors houses in the back though. I'm also thinking about some way of electrocuting cats when they piss on the corner of my house:scratchchin:.

By the way, I've heard that the rat poison thing might end up killing other animals, like owls who eat the poisoned carcasses. That would be unfortunate...

PS.: they also have this squirrel baffle http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page...719,33068&ap=1

I don't want to kill anything. I just want to reinforce my point to the squirrel population.

Don't make me start in again about getting laid..........:toilet:

Local garden store had these. Looked like some viable concepts.

I could do a lot of things if I had some money.

I had the original weighted model of those bird feeders (15yrs ago) and the squirrels got even by eating through the PVC in the bottom. Glad to see they upgraded to aluminum.
