  • Speaker leads In and Variable High Pass Speaker Outs

Is there a sub with speaker leads in and a variable crossover speaker leads out to mains?

I listen to 75% music. My Integrated Amp does not have a sub output. I want to find the most musical sub that will blend best with my mains. I have the AV123 850 sigs. My room is 15 x 24 x 15. My budget is $500.

What would be my best buy for this system?

There are lots of choices. I'd personally suggest a sealed sub instead of a ported one. I don't like as much the group delay, sharp roll-off, or sound of ports as much as sealed. Although there are certainly sealed designs that are worse than ported.

Also, for my purposes, ports or passive radiators would not have worked. :p

The nicer Velodyne models have always been very good at music, in my experience. Used would hit your price point. I think the UFW-12 is good in its operational band as well. Just lacks the low end because of the filter. A used UFW-12 or UFW-10 would fit your budget. I don't recall which of these subs have speaker-level in and out with variable crossover.

(Been thinking of selling my UFW-12 actually. Supposed to be one guy coming to take a look.)

Said $500 to the guy I was talking to since I'd seen UFW-10's go for $400. He hasn't called to confirm a time to come listen though so not sure what's going on.

It's in great cosmetic condition as long as you don't look at the bottom, and in perfect working condition. You can always check it out when you're here for the GTG.

But I just checked and it doesn't have speaker-level inputs and outputs. So it doesn't do what you want.

It is hard to find a sub with a high level variable crossover to the mains. They used to be more common when most people used the speaker level inputs, but now with receivers having integrated bass management, the high pass filters have kind of gone by the wayside.

The SVSound subs seem to still carry them.

Doesn't look like they have a high pass filter on the speaker level outs, but you would have to email them to find out because it doesn't mention it in the manual.

I haven't used a tape loop in a long time what model integrated are you using? If you got something like an Outlaw ICBM you could put it in between your source and the integrated and it would work fine. I really wish someone would start marketing an analog bass manager again, especially a two channel version. The only other option I know of are active crossovers like the behringer line.

It's an old JVC knock off of the Threshold Stasis series. It sounds great. Just very old. It has two tape inputs. I'll look into the Behringer products.
