  • Which will yield best results?

Hello all, 1st post here at CHT. I am considering either: 2 ss 18.2's side by side under pj screen in front of room, or 4 ss 18.1's, one per corner. The room is 13x 16, with 10 foot ceilings. The screen is a 106 on the 13' wall.

I will be running these with a Crown XLS 2500. I am leaning toward the 2 18.2's, but quads seems interesting. Any thoughts generally on which route would likely yield best results?

I am 50/50 music/movies, and associated gear is Salon 2's with Emo XPA1's; Integra DTR 80.2; Oppo BDP 93, and Def Tech Mythos ST rears and 10 center.

Thanks! Great forum you have here btw, I have been lurking and studying with interest.

The 4 18.1's will give you a smoother response across all seating locations, the 2 18.2's will give you more raw SPL, but will not be as smooth across the entire frequency range. 6 DB more IIRC. So what's more important to you?

Can't be much more expensive for the 18.1s, and then you can try both methods. No difference in performance, just how they are placed, and the extra flexibility.

I think it's 100 dollar more expensive for the 18.1's but you get lots more flexibility.

So then if I lined up 4 18.1's side by side, they would output and measure comparably to 2 18.2's side by side?

pretty much, yep. I'm using my 18.T (2 18.1's) stacked as an 18.2

So what advantage other than marginal price difference is there to the 18.2 as opposed to dual 18.1s is there if any? 18.2 Looks pretty badass in any event.:D

General theory is when you co-locate 2 subs, you pick up 6dB like guarnacia said. If you spread them out, only 3, The same doubling for 4 18" woofers compared to two. So, no performance difference as long as you stack them, but, more even frequency if you put them in different places.

Thanks to everyone for your help. Decided to start with a single 18.2 and an MQ 600. Just placed order!
