What's considered the best practice for setting up gain structure ?
I understand that the ideal is to have the AVR and the amp to clip at the same time. What I am not clear about though is how to get there.
My AVR is Denon 4311 and I use inuke3000DSP to power SS-18.2.
I have the following controls:
1. level trim control on the AVR
2. global gain control on the amp
3. level trim control on the amp.
Here's what I do:
1. Set sub level on the AVR to 0db.
2. disconnect the subs, run a test signal and adjust volume trim and/or gain controls on the amp until the level LEDs get into the "red" territory.
This in theory should satisfy the requirements. One thing that throws me off is whenever I run Audyssey after that it finds that the sub level is hot and i have to trim id down from whatever settings I thought were optimal.
can you give me any pointers on how to do it properly? Also, when should I use the global gain on the amp? Should I leave it at 0 if I am able to drive the amp into clipping without it (even if i have to leave the trim level wide open to do it)?
thank you
