Experimenting with other amps

I am starting this thread to discuss other amplification for the SS-18.2 and 18.t that I have personally experimented with.

So far I have tried the following with my ss-18.2

Dayton SA-1000
Crown XLS-602
QSC USA-1200
Phonic MAX-2500
Adcom GFA-555II
Crown XLS-1500
Mackie 1400i

I will be providing writeups for each one of these. Just getting the thread started up at this point, don't expect any scientific graphs or anything as that's a little above my head still (don't have the proper equipment to take measurements) Will be more or less subjective commentary.

If you own a spl meter you culd still take measurements for comparisons. Run a 10hz test tone, then 15hz, and then 20hz, etc.... and measure with your spl meter on how loud it is(it does not have to be accurate as this is just comparing the amps level differences). Just turn it up until it sounds bad to you and call it your max spl at each frequency. Then change amp and see if the dBs change at all. Maybe one will be higher at 10hz, etc....

they sound good, the real challenge is integrating them with my 18.2

unfortunately I no longer own the xls-602 or the sa1000 so that would be impossible.

If and when I ever get my subs, I can measure mine with my Crown XLS-5000 and an SPL meter.

Did you ever get around to finishing this? I looked for other posts and I didn't see it, but it's very possible I missed it too. Basically, I'm ordering a SS-18.2, and am wondering if there is a better amp I could get for around the same price or if the Dayton is a very good bang for your buck amp? I'd certain it's a great choice as its the one they sell with their subs and they wouldn't want to use a inferior product that could make their products perform worse, but I always like to look at available options. :)

Same here Stormwind13, thinking about getting a Crown XLS-2000 for my single 18.2 to run with a Denon 4311 and XT-32.

I never got around to posting my impressions because work got so busy. By the time I did, some of the amps I had sold.

I currently use the mackie 1400i with the chase ss-18.2 I find that right around 1500 good clean watts is a great starting point. I felt that the mackie had a little more snort then the crown xls1500.

I still use the xls- on my pair of cinema f20s

I found the xls-1500 to be lacking a bit on the 18.2, don't get me wrong the sub will pound with that amp- but the amp runs out of steam before the sub does.

I'll be interested to hear about the xls-2000
