  • No LFE unless Double Bass is turned on

Hey all! Good to be back. I have the 10.2 paired up with an Onkyo TX-SR805.

I didn't notice this until recently but: There is no LFE unless Double Bass is turned on. Not too sure why. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Its basically a night and day difference with DB on or off.
-I live in Madison, WI (what a boring sig right? :))

With doublebass engaged, all frequencies below your cutoff is sent to both your sub and mains provided your mains are set to "full band". All other channels not set to "full band" will have there sound redirected to your sub along with your LFE. For example, if your surrounds are set at 100hz, all sound below 100hz is redirected to both your sub and your mains when doublebass is engaged. What mains do you use and how is your system crossed?

I suspect you have fairly capable mains and due to placement options, eq settings, etc, you're getting exaggerated bass in the frequency range where your sub and mains overlap in their frequency response, hence DOUBLEbass. This could give the illusion of LFE when in reality it's bass material from your other channels. IMHO, this setting will make your bass sound slightly less accurate but I can see its uses. Are you certain there is no LFE with this feature turned off or are you just losing redirected sound from your other channels?
