  • sub until scamp

While I am waiting for the Scamp to be released I want to get a sub for the time. The sub will be used 90 music and 10 ht. I have looked at svs and hsu with two subs about the same cost. Which would be best to hold me over.

    HSU VTF-1 $404

    SVS PB10-NSD $429

I have the VTF-1 and love it. It is a very musical sub.

SVS has a B-Stock 25-31 PCi for $419 that might interest you.

Yes I saw that. Not sure If I want a cylinder sub. Heard they are a little boomy for music.

          Thanks for the heads up.

In maximum output mode it has tremendous kick and will allow you to play louder than you would probably want to listen. I maximum extension mode it will play with authority down to about 22 Hz. This sub, like other Hsu subs I have owned, has a very flat frequency response.

If you're looking at the VTF-1, and looks matter at all, you could check out the Outlaw LFM-Compact at $399 (might go on sale around the holidays too).

It's designed by Dr. Hsu and Outlaw, and should have very comparable performance to HSU in max extension mode... but it looks alot nicer, IMO.

Thanks for all the replies. I will take a look at the outlaw too. I'm just torn on when to buy. Should I was for BF or just buy one now.

You mean you plan on spending $300-$400 on a "temporary" sub until the $200 scamp comes out??? What am I missing that I fail to see the logic in tthat thought process???:poke:

Wow, somehow I didn't even catch on that this would be a "temporary" sub.

I would think if you're going with an HSU VTF-1 or Outlaw LFM-compact, there would be no real reason to get a Scamp. Those are both highly regarded subs for their size/price... Not saying the Scamp would be a downgrade...but I don't see how it'd be an upgrade either.

Well I thought the last I heard the Scamp will not be $200. Right now I am subless and with no hint of a release date I thought buying a sub at a reasonable price would suffice. Plus everything I read about the Scamp is that it would be better than any sub priced over what I was looking to spend.

That was my logic, but you guys talked me into not buying a sub and just waiting for a Scamp.

Have you considered one of the hsu designed dayton subs. There was a killer deal last month on the 10in (like $190). It's up to $229 now but with free shipping so it will actually come out about the same. I bought one of these for my living room and it will soon be sent to the bedroom. Probably not the most musical sub you could dream of but does do a very serviceable job and won't cost you near as much. It may also be a really good comparison to the Scamp when it comes out.

YOu can get an MFW-15 for $599 + $130 shipping right now. I have also heard that you can be put on a B-stock list for $450.

I am waiting for a couple Scamps for my upstairs theater but I ordered an MFW-15 for now. Once the downstairs theater is finished the MFW (and a second) will move down there and Scamps will take their place.

I look at the MFW like a big brother to the Scamp.
