  • SUB TESTING ED A5-350 and MAELSTROM X sealed

    Hello Everyone,

This is my second post here. I have ordered 5 SHO-10s and will receive them tomorrow. I am just another HT enthusiast but not as knowledgeable as the most of the people in this forum.

I have always been told that "sealed and ported" subs should not be used together. I wanted to see the reason behind this suggestion and did some testing last weekend.

My room is 19x14.5x8. The front stage has been covered with linacoustic and has OC702 in the corners as bass trap. The ceiling has double drywall with green glue in between. The entire room has 48" high linacoustic around. 3 sides of the room has cement walls.

the mic is on the floor ,back of the room right corner (both subs running) I think this is the loudest point in the room (to my ears)

Wow cool stuff, welcome to the forum and CHT owner family; fantastic looking theater!

I've always wondered what mixing ported and sealed would result in, especially in this case where the stronger sub is (I'm guessing) the sealed one. It's always said that two subs are better to fill FR gaps, so I wonder if traditionally mixing the two is unadvised, but the fact that a second fills some gaps makes it a fair tradeoff.

Those SHOs are going to kill in your room. What were your mains before? They have a Polk vibe to me, but I'm not sure.
Most posts made under this account probably influenced by "kool-aid". Done drinking what Chase is offering, and my current views have significantly changed.

Now, I have placed the Maelstrom to the front left corner and and moved ED A5-350 to my living room. I re ran AUDYSSEY and set up SMS-1 and much happier with the current results..

yes, they are POLK RTI 12 s and I normally use them in my living room, however I blew my POLK RTI 8 s couple of weeks ago and had to use these Polks temporarily. I don't think using a tower speaker in my configuration makes sense as I when I sit down, the tweeters are way above the ear level.

I am curious to see if I am going to hear a difference with SHO-10s ...
