Not to knock the other 2 companies as I have had both their products, but if your looking for the best bang for the buck with great quality in the musical and theater realm, I would highly recommend an 18.1 or 18.2 I have an 18.2 which is great for music, though size may be an issue, but if your looking for something small compact and wireless I would take the uls-15 , problem with the uls 15 though is it is really hard to place in a room and make take hours of calibrating to hit the sweet spot. an Epik empire is a great sub with alot of usable output and pretty easy to place but for sheer power I would take an 18.1 over it any day of the week.
      Just my 2 cents"thumbsup:

With a $1500 budget dual 18.1's or a single 18.2 are a very reasonable choice. If your room can handle the size.

While I haven't heard them yet the reviews are all very good. I hope to hear them very soon. L

Also, let us know where you are located. You might be close enough to a member for an audition.

I would also strongly support a recommendation for either the 18.1 or 18.2 simply depending on the size that works best for you. While I have not heard the aforementioned subs, I do have the previous top of the line SVS subs. For music there is not comparison. Aside from their ability below 40Hz, the output capability of the 18's above that I would dare say are unmatched at most any price. They are efficient, extremely powerful and capable throughout the entire mid bass range. The sealed design is a plus as well for sound quality. Give them a try, I am positive you would not be disappointed.

I predict the final answer will be...go with either the 18.1 or 18.2. If you understand selection bias you know that coming to TCA forums and posting this question can only get you one answer.

To be fair, that answer is likely the right answer. For me, it came down to the Empire, the HSU ULS and the CS18.1. At a certain point, pure measurements/curves can only get you so far, but based on Craig's posts on the various forums, the overall response from the owners and last of all the ease of dealing with Ray on what turned into somewhat of a complicated order, I'm convinced I have:
                1. The best bang-for-the-buck sub that has the right blend of extension and suitability for music
                2. A sub that will be well supported by a community and the company

Once I pick up my sub in approximately 2 weeks, I will be able to substantiate point 1.

And that, folks, is my contribution to inaccurate statistical methods for the week.

I guarantee you will absolutely love this sub for music. Upright acoustic bass and drums sound fantastic. Put on Fanfare for the Common Man. The sound of the tympani will make you pee your pants.
