Are you getting that for your 2-channel room? :)

I wonder where I can find a driver that size? Is the grill used supposed to keep out small animals and people with really large hands?

from my time on the DIY speaker/subs forum at AVS (i know, i know) it looks like the box is lacking in total port area, or else the driver has 1.2mm of xmax!
or perhaps i'm just a little jealous

I'm 100% sure you can get far better bass for $8999 than buying that. However, it won't be nearly as impressive looking.

$9K is just over the limit of which I'd buy stuff just because it would be funny to have it... :whoopie:

I was wondering the same thing! That grill is by far my favorite part... I can't think of a single threat to the woofer that it could possibly protect. Anything big enough to be blocked by it would surely snap right through it!

a 3/4 x 3/4 piece of oak is pretty strong...you wouldnt want one broken over your hiney... :eyebrows:

Maybe its because I am older before my time, 26 with two kids and married ...

Or, maybe its because after the LSes I have come to appreciate articulate bass over massive quantities of it...

But this thing just looks like an absolute waste of cash; unless your room is stadium sized....

For 9,000 grand, I'd buy a really nice preamp, and appreciate some really amazing midrange.

if i had that kind of coin and wanted bass that would fill an imax theater, i'd just get a danley th-221 "cinemonster" and call it a day.
