  • Help on Selecting Sub for MA RS6

I am a new member on this forum and am looking for a HT subwoofer to compliment my new MA RS6 speakers for a 5.1 setup. The following is my current setup:
    Onkyo-TX-SR806 Receiver
    MA RS6’s - fronts
    MA RSLCR - center
    MA RSFX - surrounds
The room that the system is located in is 14’ x 20’ with 9’ ceilings. There is a large 5’ opening into the kitchen on one wall with a 3’ hall door on another. The room is full of furniture but the floors are hardwood. I plan to locate the subwoofer in the right corner of the room to the right of my TV (farthest from the room openings.). I don’t want to spend more than $500 now as I blew my budget on the speakers. I use the setup for 70% movies and 30% music. I would like a HT sub that performs well for music as well as movies. Looks are important too, I would like them to match (as close as possible) my rosewood MA’s. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of subs in that price range that would be good, but the problem is the rosewood veneer. That kicks it out of your price range. Probably the least expensive in rosewood would be the HSU VTF-1.
The best value for price home theater systems and subwoofers on the market guaranteed

I have the Outlaw LFM-1EX which is a HSU design but I haven't heard the VTF-1.

:scratchchin:Thanks for the input dvenardos. I may have to abandon the rosenut finish. I think the 10" HSU VTF-1 may be a little too small for my room. Anyone have any other suggestions?

        SVS PB-10

Dual PA-120 (nice looking sub with piano black endcaps)--I have the cherry veneer model and it looks much nicer than the $229 price suggests. Clean output down to 23hz.

        Quad Dayton Sub-120

Jethro has this sub and is pretty happy with it:

          Edit:
Outlaw also has a B-Stock LFM-1 Plus for $474 shipped. That is a great deal, I would jump on that.

Well, if you can forgo the veneer, and you are not buying right this second, I'd say hold out a bit and see what the SS-10 is going to do.

He would need to get two and that would put it out of his range.

                Why would he need 2?

He wants the SPL of 12'. The Outlaw is a potent sub and 10" isn't going to match it.

You're probably right....although from what BH is saying the SS-10 might surprise us.

No doubt, it sounds like it will be killer. It would be better for me than my Outlaw because of my neighbor problem, but I am pretty sure that I am going to do OB.

Thanks for the tip on the b-stock Outlaws dvenardos. I heard that these were Hsu designs. The b-stock price puts it more in my ballpark.

Jason what is the SS-10 you mentioned?

Anyone familiar with the Cadence CSX-15 Home Theater Subwoofer http://www.cadencehometheaterspeaker...2&idproduct=17. It's in my ballpark but it is hard to find good reviews on it.

That is TCA's first subwoofer offering. Originally it was called Scamp, but the name has changed since the name belies it's performance. Mark Seaton is the designer, and is doing final testing right now.

But Don is right, it is *only* a 10" driver, and will likely have a little less output than the Outlaw, although Craig has said the SS-10 will be a true 20 Hz sub:thumbsup:
