  • My temp solution for bass!! MFW AMP DEAD YES...

So I got to thinking ok, the staiks are just not cutting it in the bass department and there appears like there is going to be a significant wait for the new amps. Which, if they are done right, I can deal. So been looking at getting an external amp that I could use if I ever decide to build a DIY sub. Hmmm... well why the hell can't I set up a good receiver and go from there?

That's just what I did. I had a old Yamaha receiver (which IMHO sounds better then the Onk), took the amp plate off, unhooked the speakers terminals from the amp, plugged in the LFE to the right channel of CD (which it could be any input on the receiver) wired up the right side of the receiver outputs and voila! Back in business.

That said, if you have an old receiver with a dead amp here's an option to get one or two depending on how you go about going and have some bass again. Think I'm kinda like Jason when it comes to bass. I like to feel it..

Hells yeah!!! But it works again.... Sucks having no bass, I think the voce gets down lower then the statiks. I just couldn't deal with it anymore. Got to a point were I was listening to any music because it was frustrating to see that damn 15 just sitting idle. It was almost like it was looking at me sadly not being used. :jiggy:

        Congratulations.

I made the same suggestion over at AVS a while back and was cautioned that with no subsonic filter, I would run the chance of damaging the driver.

I think as long as you are careful and don't trying playing pulse or one of the other known high spl / low frequency samples at reference levels, you should be o.k.

With that said, you know that somebody reading this will probably do exactly that.

I am being careful with it and not cranking it. Just primarily running it off of my D*tv feed and PS3 both of which I wouldn't think would go that low in the frequency range anway. That said, I am also not cranking the hell out of it.
