  • $<2k subwoofer/s

Looking to spend about $1500 for a subwoofer or a pair of subs for my basement home theater that is a work in progress as we speak. I just finished texturing the walls this morning, and will primer tomorrow. Anyhow, its moving along rather fast.. and I had always thought a pair of MFW-15's were going to be down there next to the rockets. Well, MFW-15 situation is no where near stable enough for me to want to partake, so I'm going to purchase a sub or subs from elsewhere. Its pattys day so I've had a couple whiskeys... Heres the background.

Room size ~ 750 sq. ft w/ 8 foot high ceilings
The room isn't a dedicated theater.. will have pool table and some play room for the kids.

I want the best bang for my buck for HT. I don't plan on critically listening to music down there. I want to be blown away for movies.

    So far I'm thinking....

    1. SVS PB13
    2. Epik Conquest
    3. (2) sentinels from Epik
    4. ED A7-450
    5. (2) ED A5-350s
    6. (2) ED A7S-450's only sealed option
    7. (2) HSU VTF3 MK3

Which one is the best bang for buck and why? HT only...

Any thoughts toward diy or infinite baffle?

Also, for just HT you have the option of employing a HSU MBM or two.

I have no experience with any of these, good luck!

the conquest is a monster, no one has heard the sentinels yet. I have a knight in Grand Haven if you want to hear it.

The knight isn't on the product page anymore. Is it like the phoenix or sentinel?

I have thought about DIY, but I decided against it as I have too many DIY projects going on right now as it is. My plate is full.

For HT use only, Conquest will give you the biggest bang for your buck commerically. Otherwise I'd look at two Mal-X 18" in sealed enclosures, 2x Behringer EP2500 and a DCX 2496 to EQ.

I'm leaning toward the conquest. It would look a little bit cooler to have some symmetry across the front however...
                What about for 2 subs?

Probably two of the A7S - 450 with the optional 1300w amps.

Made up my mind. 2 A5-350's w/ EQ. Got em for $1350 shipped.

Yah I thought about the outlaws. But, 15 inch subs are going to rock.
This morning when I was on the phone with alex, he said they were $800/ each... but the website said this

                        A5 - 350 Subwoofer
Item Status: In Stock | Item: A5-350
                        List Price: $800.00
                        Regular Price: $800.00
                        Quantity Price (2+) : $675.00
                        Quantity:

Alex said it was a mistake on the website that he would honor for me. Its now $750 each for 2+.

The beauty is they will ship this week, and there is no shipping charge. So, I just kind of jumped on em. I definitely didn't plan on buying a pair of subs today... but I've been known to pull the trigger pretty quick when I know a good deal is to be had. $1350 shipped for a pair of 15's is the kind of deal I was looking for.

A little late here, but at $1500 you're within spitting distance of the Submersive.

Already gave ED my charge info. I'm happy with my decision, I stayed under budget and I'll have the WAF symmetry I wanted. I'll let you know how they sound. This came with it free as well http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=657
