  • A2b update

What's the word on the arrival date of the A2b? My new system has everything but it.

I'd like to know too, hopefully it won't be much longer for the A2b and A3s to be back instock. Kind of important to make sure that center channels are available.

This is from the product web page:

For 2012, the new Arx A2b has been redesigned to fit in 20" wide spaces. Additional cabinet depth retains the original Arx A2's internal volume and impressive bass response. Updated midrange tuning adds resolution. Expect the new Arx A2b Fall 2012.

What can we expect from the midrange tuning ?

Should we expect to see it sometime before December 21st?

I couldn't wait, took the plunge today and ordered a third A5, so I will have an all (LCR) A5 front stage, impressions coming, I'm kind of glad the A2b is delayed, really needed a CC for the newly acquired EMO XPA-3, I'm ready to rock and roll........
            Cheers Jeff

              Congrats on the purchase, Jeff.

By the way, how's the A5s (L-R) and EMO XPA combo? I read from other forums that some EMOs exhibit a nasty hiss when used to drive highly efficient speakers--not really a fault of the amplifiers more of inappropriate match between the amplifier and speakers?

Unbelievable, the A5's just love the power and really shine, my XPA-3 is dead solid quiet with an ear an inch away. no hiss no nothing seriously, no ground loops either, plugged directly into wall, can't wait to install the A5 center and post impressions. The XPA-3 is a steal at $599. It really shocked me too how quiet the amp is.

That's good to hear, Jeff. Let us know how the additional A5 plays out. I bet it's awesome. Are you mounting your tv just above the A5 or are you using an AT screen?

Yes, it will be about seven inches from the top of the A5, I also got a mount that will acommodate a new 65" Panny Plasma, I'm just going Christmas crazy giving and giving to myself:mrgreen:. I sure will let you guys know how the third A5 plays out, especially with the new big black end tables:mrgreen: Happy and healthy Holidays to all.
                    Cheers Jeff

Also running an XPA-3 with my A5's L/R and A2 C -- ROCK SOLID POWER and very low noise floor. ZERO complaints.

Would be a lot merrier if I had an a2b and a pair of a4's in the mail :-), but still... Merry Christmas anyhow!

How does it compare to the Crown XLS1500 you were previously running?

Very similar with a lot of power and headroom to spare, plus an extra 200 watt third channel to drive my A5 center coming soon. It looks a lot nicer also, very intimidating and heavy. Plus I don't have to level match this amp as it has a fixed gain of 32 dB, the 1500 has two channel gain controls (isn't a bad thing), it was a little hassel to level match with my pre (receiver). Considering a dedicated outboard processor, my 809's amps don't see much use, it's basically a pre-pro. Waiting on a friend who just purchased the EMO UMC-200, so far he is liking it a lot, and Gene at AH will have a full review of it later this week. First shipment sold out, will be shipping January 10th. Happy New Year.
                              Cheers Jeff
