My A1bs just arrived at 1:40PM Saturday. I may be the first; here is what I found.
Tracking said signature required but the FedEx man put the box at my front door and rang the bell. The dog barked and he ran. No signature. The box was in good shape except for a ding in one corner. I've read some recent horror stories about shipping companies being rough on heavy speaker boxes so I was relieved.
Speakers nicely double boxed. Firm foam inserts in the inner box protect the speakers very well. Each speaker in a separate plastic bag. Speakers are heavy for their size. You can't appreciate this from reading the specs. Finish was flawless; they really look good for a "plain black wrapper." Pins holding the grills very secure, but it's easy to remove the grills. I'm very pleased with the packaging and the look of these speakers. They exceeded my expectations.
One thing though: There weren't any foam plugs to plug the port for close wall placement. Since these will be surround speakers they will be close to the back wall. Jon, am I missing something?
Until the A2b comes in I'm going to use one A1b as a center. I'll have to read up on how to rotate the tweeter. Oh, for those of you aware that I've been lobbying for the last ten months to get the A4s instead of the A1bs for surrounds, I finally mentioned it to my wife. She did not want speakers mounted on the wall. In fact she said, "I like speakers that I can put something on." She's a potter and teacher and our existing surrounds are small towers. On top of each is a rotating display of baskets, vases and pots. I should have known better.
